Company history

In a difficult period of change, Anton Wiedemeyer started with just one horse-drawn carriage.

He transported coal and potatoes and drove wedding and funeral carriages. These were the first special-purpose vehicles in the company's history.

The purchase of the first truck in 1948 was a milestone in the company's development.

Six years later, the last four horses were retired. The business gradually became a modern transport company.

In 1950, Heinrich Wiedemeyer took over the company. He had already joined the business in 1945 as the junior generation.

He shaped the company until his death in 1965 and guided Wiedemeyer through important years of rebuilding and change.

From 1965, Helene Wiedemeyer led the company until Bernd Wiedemeyer took over management in 1969.

At that time, the company already had seven trucks. From then on, the business continued to grow strongly.

From the mid-1970s, the company's main focus shifted to specialist transport.

Low loaders, low beds and extendable trailers became key tools for demanding assignments. In 1973, Bernd and Sigrid Wiedemeyer met; they married two years later, and Matthias Wiedemeyer was born in 1977.

By 1983, the family business already employed more than 25 people, including seven trainees.

Excavators, cranes, oversized construction parts, escalators and prefabricated houses were transported in individual components. Loads of up to 50 tonnes were moved across Germany and abroad, while 16 tractor units with trailers covered around one million kilometres per year.

With the acquisition of the former REME production halls in Wetter, Wiedemeyer significantly expanded the company's spatial foundation.

The existing infrastructure created important conditions for storage, handling and the development of coil logistics - a field that has become one of Wiedemeyer's core competencies.

With Matthias Wiedemeyer, the next generation gradually takes on responsibility within the company. In 2003, he becomes an authorised signatory and helps shape the development of dispatch, fleet operations and project business.

The transition is prepared deliberately and over the long term - in keeping with a family business that combines continuity with renewal.

Additional hall space in Witten expands Wiedemeyer's options for storage, handling and project-related work.

The available crane systems - including lifting capacities of up to 150 tonnes - create room for heavy components and demanding industrial assignments.

In 2008, we look back on 75 years of company history - from the first horse-drawn transports to a specialised logistics partner.

The anniversary is above all a moment of gratitude: to the family, the workforce, long-standing customers and everyone who has supported the company's development.

Between 2010 and 2014, the fleet is continuously expanded and aligned with growing requirements in specialist transport.

New vehicle technology - including 5-axle trailers with a 60-tonne payload, high point load, sliding roof, coil trough as well as steering and lift axles - increases flexibility for heavy, sensitive and time-critical transports.

Wiedemeyer further expands hall capacities at the Wetter, Hattingen and Ennepetal sites.

With crane systems and flexible-use space, around 40,000 m² of production and storage halls are available in the Ruhr region - an important building block for integrated logistics solutions.

In 2016, the generational transition prepared over many years is completed: Matthias Wiedemeyer takes the helm as managing director.

Bernd Wiedemeyer steps back from management and continues to support the company as authorised signatory - with experience, trust and a strong sense of continuity.

The corona period and the Ruhr flood present Wiedemeyer with particular challenges in 2021 and 2022.

Many processes have to be reorganised, damage has to be dealt with and customers still need reliable support. During this period, the qualities that have carried the company for generations become especially visible: cohesion, resourcefulness and the determination to keep going.

In 2026, Tom Wiedemeyer completes his first internship in the company and experiences the family business at close range.

This means Bernd, Matthias and Tom Wiedemeyer are part of everyday company life at the same time - three generations connecting experience, responsibility and the future.
