150 tons transport = en détail route planning

The mission

Two machines with dimensions of 8.2m x 6.3m x 3m (length x width x height) and 6m x 3.7m x 2m and a weight of 95 tons and 58 tons should be moved from Lovosice in the Czech Republic to Karlsruhe along with other various parts (15m length, 4m width, 25-30 tons).

The real challenge

Although it was not a really handy freight, the biggest challenge was to obtain appropriate approvals for the transport of the 95 to machine. For obtaining the approval for the trip through Germany one of our responsible dispatchers spent about 200 hours of work and a total of 8 weeks. The request was initially rejected 3 times by various authorities for the reason that there was no appropriate route for a shipment with a total length of 35m, a width of 6.3m and a total weight of about 150 tons (truck plus loading). But the dismantling of the 95 to machine would have been tantamount to a heart surgery. An assembly in Karlsruhe would not have been possible. In the end, the tenacity of our dispatcher paid off and a route could be found.

The transport and the reassembly

In the Czech Republic many detours had to be taken. The bypass on ordinary road due to insufficient carrying capacity of many bridges belonged to the standard program. Also in Germany the maximum load of bridges was limited to 100 tons - the ride along country roads and through small villages became necessary. Partially, we could only move at walking speed. No-stopping signs had to be set up at different places two days before, so that no parking cars should block the way. Traffic lights and other traffic signs have been removed or rotated. Without damage we arrived after 3 days at the customer in Karlsruhe. Two large 250 tons cranes were waiting, which unloaded the 95 to machine. Just two days earlier, the 58 tons machine had arrived at the customer. Within a week, the machines could be reassembled by an assembly crew and put into operation shortly.
